You need powered ports.

Received the hub today, it looks good, reads and writes flash drives and SD cards at standard speed. The description states that the USB-C port is a data port, but the USB-A ports are not powered either. As a result, I cannot use my Mac Super Drive through the hub.

Near Perfect: Excellent form/function, slightly faded in colour.

For all the amazing engineering that has gone into this Apple-style peripheral, I was (just a little, so I deducted 1 star) disappointed that it wasn't exactly the color of the 2018 equivalent to Mac Mini. I've almost used all of the rear ports already, so it's great to use the USB and SD card access from time to time. Also note that the Power LED is much smaller and harder to see than on the Mac Mini (second image). Another "oddity" is that the SD card is inserted with the contacts facing up…

Pros
  • Great for a small home

Mac Runs Much Warmer

Although the device adds functionality and looks very nice, the Mac runs much warmer than usual even when it's not doing much. I'm going to make a blank for the top of the stand so the Mac just sits on a flat surface like Apple intended. I've shut down the booth for now.

Pros
  • Same as Everything Before

Perfect accessory for computers and accessories

I bought this after I bought the new M1 Mac Mini because I use the ports on its back for accessories that I don't want to remove (like monitor, speakers, webcam, etc.). This hub gave me access to several of the ports I needed and works by simply plugging it into the back of my computer. I just wish there was a silver color option as Apple doesn't offer a "space gray" color option for the M1 Mac Mini.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Very expensive

External micro/SD media disconnects without warning

I bought this because I wanted to open up some ports where I could see it, as well as the fact that I constantly access external SD media access . The color isn't perfect, but I'm happy with it. My biggest concern is SD and Micro SD card readers randomly turning off. I've used both a few times and each time the reader randomly turns off before I'm done with the card.

Pros
  • Crossing my fingers
Cons
  • Sad hardware

The Missing Piece - Computers and accessories

This is the missing part for Mac mini. It adds an import theme to accessibility, which Apple clearly hasn't done for the user. It's well built, the color matches my Mac Mini Silver 2020 and it doesn't cause any heat issues. The memory reader is fast and convenient for SD cards. Users with CF/XQD cards must use a USB A/C dongle. I wish it was a little cheaper, but the design is important too, and it fits my Mac Mini really well, almost like a missing part that Apple forgot to ship. However, if…

useful but not perfect

My Satechi USB-C hub arrived today and I just installed it. now drive over the front USB port. So far, so good. But the front connections are only "up to 5 Gbps", so the backup will be very slow. The size and shape are exactly the same as the Mac mini (aside from the height, of course), so they look like they go together from this point of view. - Installation couldn't be easier as this is an unpowered hub. Disadvantages so far: - The packaging is incredibly complicated. Ironically, this…

Completely disappointed. . . Not recommended!

I was glad to get the M1 Mini, so after reading some great reviews about the Satechi hub, I bought it before realizing that its functionality was limited. While it looks very nice, fits the Mini perfectly, and has some great features, it lacks basic features compared to other products on the market. design doesn't even have enough power to charge my devices. It's just a data hub and I don't transfer much data. So it's useless. (I didn't see that info anywhere in their product presentation. I…

I really want this, but basic problems prevent me from using it

--PROS--1. Looks great. There's a slight color mismatch between it and the Mini, but it's slight enough to be easily ignored. When plugged in, it looks like a Mac Mini Pro. The connection cable is designed so that its length is sufficient to connect to the device and not otherwise interfere. It goes a long way toward the illusion of being built-in. 2. Very convenient. Obviously there are many hubs available, but this one stays in place and offers all the ports I need. -- DISADVANTAGES -- 1…
