I bought a Sandisk reader and it didn't work well with my Mac (OS 11.3) via a USB-C hub. This surprised me a little given the name and experience of Sandisk. The only reason I didn't bother with the less expensive Nameless was because I was afraid of incompatibility. Kind of ironic. Sandisk tech support was unhelpful and blamed my hardware. OK. So I returned it and reluctantly bought a Sony - I really didn't want to spend $100 on a card reader. A little crazy. But it works with my mac and hub, no problem at all. Speeds are as expected and close to the advertised max (for readers, not my cards which are almost 2x faster). For the extra $50 I spend, I can say it's designed a little better. First, the card is much easier to insert and remove than with Sandisk. I couldn't "single handed" the card on Sandisk. Sony ejects the card with light pressure on the card. It's also thinner, which also makes it easier to pack. Sandisk is a bulky piece of plastic. (Sony is also plastic, just not bulky). One weird thing I've noticed is that my CFexpress cards get a little warm when I take them out, but my old XQD cards (this reader is one of the few that can read both) are barely warm. I really can't explain why this is the case, but I haven't had any problems with my CFexpress cards as a result. I've read reviews from other readers complaining about hot cards, so maybe it's just the nature of CFexpress cards - they get really hot.
