I had high hopes for this printer and removed all plastic tabs, covers etc when I fully got into the process and opened the scanner/copier area to see a small image of a hand, removed a piece of plastic over the side glass copy/scan area. It came off quite easily, but it tore in half and was quite wrinkled, which struck me as odd. I started setting up the printer and testing everything, but when I tried the copier with the top tray, everything got stuck. It was at this point, after searching for answers, that my brain finally registered a "red circle with a slash" over a piece of brittle plastic covering the scanner's surface. I felt pretty stupid until I looked up the comments online and realized that LOTS of people are making the same mistake. Serious HP. You throw all sorts of little pieces of protective plastic film at the printer and it doesn't look any different, but you pick that particular piece and you actually see the pattern of the hand peeling it off. I know I should have correctly noted the fact that there was a "circle and a slash" above it, but obviously I'm not the only one misinterpreting this! What about the WORDS that say DO NOT DELETE! I've tried contacting HP support but it just doesn't work. I can't login, register a product, account, etc. It's been a freaking frustrating day with HP! Can anyone tell me how I can get a cheap plastic replacement piece for the copier scanner head/feeder? This part looks COMPLETELY like a late fix to something that clearly didn't work properly. Who would just stick a piece of cheap plastic wrap on the outside of a very expensive printer as a mandatory part?!?!?!? I think it was a design flaw and this was the easiest way to fix it. Terrible!
