Bought these shorts for my 4 year old son. He's a big kid so I took him a size up and they fit him perfectly so I'd say he's a bit small. They have pockets and don't look like nightwear so he can wear them to school or going out, but they're also comfortable enough that he wears them to sleep as well. They still look good after 6-7 washes. No shrinkage problem
