Review on πŸ’§ Victron Energy GX Touch 50: Waterproof Panels and System Monitoring Solution by Alex Maynard

Provides the connectivity and data you need but is expensive

I have a Multiplus remote that I wanted to control so I'm stuck on this unit or putting together other brands with setup difficulties and limited data collection. I like the way it works, but it's expensive and the cables to connect it to other devices are also very expensive. A common problem with Victron products is that you have to buy a bunch of different gadgets and cables to get everything under control and under control. Everything but the Multiplus comes with Bluetooth, but you have to be there to use it. It would make a lot of sense for the Color Control GX to connect to all the other Victron devices via Bluetooth, but no, you can only connect to them individually via the app. You do NOT need to use this device in your MultiPlus installation - you can simply connect your phone or computer directly to the MultiPlus via USB. This GX integrates a battery monitor, charger, inverter and possibly other Victron products on the same network and sends the information to the Victron remote monitoring servers. I'd rather not need a third-party cloud, but it makes things easier. The remote console is pretty slow, but it works. It looks like this thing might just offer direct access, and maybe it does, which I'll talk about later. You will need at least a single RJ45 network cable to connect to the MultiPlus (other inverters may require different cables) and power (cables included). ). Internet connection requires a USB Wi-Fi dongle (I haven't tried that) or an Ethernet connection to your LAN (every connection must go through your LAN's Internet connection, of course). You'll need a VE.Direct cable for any other Victron devices you want to connect, up to 2. If you want to connect more than two VE.Direct devices, you'll need a good ol' USB hub and a VE. Direct USB cable. If you own a large boat, learn a strategy for selling marine electronics: Attract a customer with good core components to your brand, then increase the price of accessories. So if you put this on a boat, as many people do, you will be familiar with the program. Overall I like Victron products - they just work and look very high quality. I've used other cheaper brands for a few solar projects and they worked well but didn't look as good or last as long. The inverter itself was a decent price, but I have to subtract -1/2 stars for the cost of the GX and -1/2 for the fact that it took so many extras to build your network.
