These chisels are highly valued by professionals. This is a classic chisel model, the design of which has not survived without reason. I'm just a hobby carpenter, but I choose many of my tools like I'll one day be good at them. This is an investment for the future and I intend to take good care of it so that I can pass it on to my grandchildren. This involves wrapping them in a nice leather roll and sharpening them to the best of your ability with 3 levels of Shapton whetstones (320, 1000, 6000). It took a while to sharpen out of the box due to the editing, but that's ok and I just had to be patient. Be careful when sharp (as with any chisel) as the non-cutting edges can be quite sharp, especially when moving against the skin under pressure. I went to the edges with a very, very light file to remove the worst part of the edge, but I was very careful not to go too far because you can't undo that. Most of the time I just use medical tape to protect my right index finger because I have a bad habit of putting pressure on that edge. I'm sure they will hold up and the wood responds well to a beech hammer. I may turn some new handles at some point in the future, but the beauty of these chisels is that the process is extremely easy. Some people had trouble keeping these buttons in place. Stanley tackles these issues right out of the box - give the shaft a little smack where it's going to go and give it a few light taps with a hammer. Mine stay fine without even doing it.
