I needed a new point and shoot digital camera because my previous 2 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom was clearly lacking. After a few days of researching online I almost bought a Canon Powershot. Then I came across the Stylus 1010. What struck me was the 7x optical zoom. But what almost turned me off were reports of 10-second continuity. Video recording time in 640x480 30fps resolution. After further research I bought the 1010 along with a 2GB M+ card. Luckily, I inserted the card and started capturing high-definition video. the countdown started from 18 minutes. When I played the video on my TV, the picture and sound quality was excellent. I didn't need to update the firmware like some said. When I started using easy-to-use controls and scales, I was hooked. People are surprised when I show them pictures of objects with and without magnification. Very impressive for a compact camera. People complain about the panorama mode, but there are two built-in modes and one PC mode, which are very easy to use. I have to admit that I was initially a bit disappointed with the overall quality of the photos, but that was before I knew how to use features like autofocus and exposure metering. If you're not sure what settings to use, just select "Auto". Another thing I like is that if you're not sure what the function for the "Disp" key is, there's a written explanation. All in all, this is a very good camera. Great picture quality, great zoom and more options than you could ever get bored with. So, for those who have had doubts like me, if you want to shoot a compact point, this camera is for you.
