We bought gray lace-up shoes. My son likes them very much. I figured. I suggest measuring your child's foot from heel to toe and then buying shoes that are the right size. My son usually wears 13.5-1.5 depending on the brand of shoes. I bought a size 3 in these boots and with thick socks there is no problem that they are a bit big. He has room to grow, that's no problem. He wore them in light rain and had no problems but puddles in heavy rain and such I can't speak. Overall very happy with this purchase.
