Review on ๐Ÿบ The Red Tent: A Captivating Novel Plunging into Ancient Secrets by David Gonzalez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm re-reading this book because I saw The Handmaid's Tale.

. In The Red Tent we get a glimpse of four sisters who successfully marry the same man. We see everything through the eyes of Dina and her four mothers. Dina's life is a cautionary tale of a family's wonders and horrors. The novel is rich in women's lives. The story reads between the lines and reads like a biblical book written by a woman. Dinah is Jacob's only daughter. I've always had problems with Jacob. Stealing his father's blessing from his brother isn't the best way to start a story about a good man. He then claims to love a woman but takes his sister instead. You know, he has to be able to tell one from the other. Her father only asked for his two daughters to reduce their dowry. Eventually he gave her sisters two more daughters as dowries. Much of the Bible is written from a human point of view. The woman's name would then be thrown in without much backstory. Through Dina's eyes we see how dangerous life was for a woman without a worthy man by her side. From the woman's point of view, the story of Abraham sacrificing his long-awaited son and Isaac's influence on that child must have been for the rest of his life. How the dishonorable actions of Jacob and his sons must have affected Dinah's life. This book is a great read if you haven't had the chance. Given today's politics, this is a cautionary tale.

Pros
  • . Outstanding overall performance.
Cons
  • . I have doubts.
