I stretched my ears to 00g and they were like that for about 5 years and they were starting to get annoying so I tried to slowly reduce them back down but they didn't go below 8g. I continued to use ear buds but really hated them and then realized that ear clips were an option. I was afraid they would be painful so I bought them and I'm so glad I did! I even forgot I wear them sometimes. I have thick hair so it's almost invisible. If you attach them securely and correctly to your earrings, they won't show much, even with your hair up.
