The fan is nice to look at but a bit shorter than I expected even when fully extended. As already mentioned, the fan is quite loud. This is not due to the engine itself, as the engine is quiet. It's the design of the blade that makes it loud. The four blades of the 18-inch body are almost entirely flat, save for the very edge of each blade, which curves sharply upwards. This rapid bend "cuts" the air, making the fan sound like an airplane propeller, even at low settings. (The fan is in the basement and I can easily hear it upstairs through the floor and insulation even when it's on low). Having placed it in the office to cool off in the summer, I find it too loud to hold during a phone meeting as the sound is both transmitted through the phone (even with the Blue Parrot Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headset) making it so loud the room where I can hardly hear the caller. Air movement, but only in the middle band of the leaf body (the center and edge of the leaf cage show very little, if any, air movement). The fan includes a cover for the motor head in outdoor use scenarios to protect it from the elements. Beautiful decorative item. which may be more appropriate outdoors or on a three-season porch than indoors due to the noise from the fan blades. The engine is probably cheaply made as looks seem to be the focus of the design. Too new to know about longevity. Refreshes when it dies.
