I have Merkur and Parker adjustable razors. Both cars are of excellent quality, with the Merkur outperforming the Parker in overall performance and comfort. This razor beats them both. My first impression of the Viking DE was this: great fit and finish for a relatively heavy razor that is easy to hold. high maneuverability and easy shaving under the nose. The pass removed my four day growth effectively and conveniently. I used setting 7 (I'm a DE power user) and used the open side of the razor. On subsequent passes, I stopped at 7 and switched to the closed side of the comb to reduce irritation. I really could have stopped after the first pass, it was very close, but I wanted to see if there would be trouble from more transitions. That didn't happen. The weight of the razor was just enough to give a smooth, comfortable shave. I have combined a DE razor with Feather brand blades. The combination was amazing. Beginners or those with sensitive skin should use a setting just below 7. The manufacturer recommends 1-3 for these people, and I also recommend a non-feather blade to start with. In addition, the use of a full-length safety bar on the side of the razor improves comfort. For those with experience, turn on the shutter setting and let the razor's weight do the work. I have every reason to believe that this razor will serve you for many years to come. Built like a tank and a joy to behold. I will update later to confirm the quality, reliability and performance.
