I've read reviews that their bulb went out after a few weeks but I've had mine for a couple of months now and the first light came on. I have a feeling they were either unreliable or turned them on and off too often. My tortoise loves the lamp and has grown a lot since I bought it for her and is a lot more active too. I feel guilty that I didn't get him sooner, but better late than never. Definitely recommend finding out exactly what your pet needs and making sure it meets their needs as some pets also need UV light and there are packages that include both a lamp and UVB.
