It really depends on your type of dishwashing. I don't fill a whole sink with soapy water. I just add dish soap, rub the sponge until it foams, and then lather the dishes. It cleans, although not as well as ordinary sponges. Dried sauce and food particles stuck to the dishes will need to be rubbed a little harder, but that shouldn't be a problem if you just soak the dishes in water right after eating. *** The scraper of an ordinary sponge wears out, and midges develop, after a while they become slimy. Not this silicone sponge. Unless you're using it to clean stainless steel or cast iron pans, it pretty much replaces a regular sponge.
