Review on Optimized Freeze-Dried Raw Dinner Morsels for Cats by Stella & Chewy's by Bob Collins

Calories, calories and more calories!

I've only been feeding my two cats this product for a month. I have a 12 year old cat who has many health issues and the vet recommended her freeze dried raw food. Since my cats are indoors, they don't exercise much, although I try to play with them every day and they have lots of toys. She was overweight when I adopted her at age 7. No matter what I do, she finds it difficult to lose weight. She even finds it difficult to wash herself thoroughly. A cup of this food is recommended for a 10 pound cat. A cup contains only 200 calories (kcal). My vet said my cat needs to stay under 200 of those calories a day to lose weight. I called Stella and Chewy's and they told me they recommended giving her 1 1/2 cups or 300 calories a day to help my cat lose weight. Something about it seemed wrong to me, so I started doing a lot of research. What I found completely shocked me. Each of these lunch bites has 5 calories! That's more calories than one of their cat treats! Along with the information I have learned about calories, Stella and Chewy's will not disclose certain details about their foods, which is not difficult for other comparable brands. For example, I've noticed a large amount of bone in this food when rehydrated. I try to select larger bones before feeding my cats. After one of my cats nearly choked on a bone the size of one of her teeth, I asked what bone content was in their product, and Stella and Chewy's flatly refused to tell me. This is just awful for someone paying close to $200 a month for their product! Now I feed my girls another brand of freeze dried raw food that is MUCH fewer calories and MUCH cheaper. My overweight friend is completely satisfied and after a month I see that she has lost weight. She is happier, more playful and keeps herself clean. It looks like a kitten will appear in it. To anyone considering buying this overweight cat food, think again. Because of the price and obviously high bone content, this food shouldn't even be on store shelves.
