Review on 📡 WAVLINK Gigabit WiFi Router, High Power Wireless Router 1200Mbps, Dual Band 5Ghz+2.4Ghz with 2 x 2 MIMO 5dBi Antennas - Home Internet Router by Eric Temple

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So far everything has been fine, with an odd/annoying quirk during installation

I don't have a home ISP. I live alone why pay twice for internet. Instead, I use it as a WISP router that connects to my unlimited internet phone and provides internet connectivity to various home devices. I've used another WISP router before (btw, not every router supports WISP, be sure to check) which was very good, but only worked at 2GHz. I also live in an apartment building which is quite congested at 2GHz which I think causes some problems. So I basically got what I'm using now for 5GHz and haven't had any of the weird connection (or range) issues I've had with 2GHz since I switched to it. It behaves the way I want it to, in the sense that when I get home it sees I'm home (like it's constantly polling my uplink) and connects to my phone and my devices come alive will (believe it or not). Are there any devices that don't, I've tried them [needs to restart to query uplink]). I haven't had any problems after installation so far. But during the installation process there was a feature that really annoyed me (hence 4 stars instead of 5). They use complex SSID password rules! Between work and home I've used LOTS of routers and this is literally the first time I've come across it. My password wasn't simple BUT it was only 8 characters long. And your requirement? 10. How random. This meant that even though I made my SSID the same as the previous router, it wasn't possible to use the same password. And that meant all my devices were already pointing to that SSID. had to be reconfigured. And it was a complete (and unnecessary) headache in the back. I made it, but it took a few days. I intend to send a clearly worded letter to the company. At least make it an option. You know, the "Use complex SSID" checkbox. Did.

Pros
  • Nice build
Cons
  • Annoying
