Review on Sony VPL VW50 1080P Theater Projector by Deshaun Fisher

Revainrating 5 out of 5

excellent picture

I got this projector as a replacement for the Sony Cineza VPL-10 (I think it was labeled as such) which was an excellent machine for the price but was seriously annoying - a noticeable haze effect on the Pan camera through a uniform field (e.g. the sky) ). Of course, I'm sitting close to the screen, so it probably didn't bother everyone. The picture quality of this projector is amazing. There is no screen door effect even if you sit 6 or 7 feet from the screen. You almost have to put your nose to the screen to even see the pixels. The contrast is much deeper; Even very dark scenes are rich in detail and I have a window in the cinema. The projector is really very quiet compared to all the others I've heard. I am very happy with this purchase and I highly recommend it. The only downside I think is that Sony has kept a pretty poor remote control, although they now offer a smart input scanner so you don't have to go through everything (thanks!). There are also a few lines above or below DirecTV's SD programming, but only on a few channels. I don't know if this removes the sweep control (I haven't tried it because I don't watch error feeds anyway).

Pros
  • electronics
Cons
  • boring packaging
