GE 18 " Fluorescent Under Cabinet Light - Good value

It was hard to find a replacement for the one I had died after many years (probably bad ballast). Everyone is pushing for LED lights Luminaires that cost a lot more for the same light output or similar sized fluorescent models that can cost the same as some of the LED lights Luminaire in terms of light output (same sized bulbs were used) and dimensions My only initial issues with trying Deciding whether to buy or not was that the length size listed was misleading and was listed as 21.7 inches in the product description section so I wasn't sure if it would fit in my 22 inch wide space. Actual length is about 18", same as my old light. With an erroneous length of 2.7", I was concerned at first too that the location of the switch was at one end and might not be accessible for my location but was finally able to see from one of the pictures of the item that it is at the bottom. I was able to use an existing set of mounting screws from my old mount, just had to move one slightly (even that already had a screw hole in the right place from an even older mount) to accommodate the wider spacing of the mounting holes on this mount. For some reason my order had a long delivery time (3-7+ weeks), not sure why but 2 out of 3 items arrived in just 2 days and this light was delivered to my door. Step 8 days after order. Given that these phosphors are no less energy efficient than LEDs (perhaps around 65% vs 90%), a similar rated lifespan (20,000 vs 25,000 hours), low power consumption (15W in this case), and my intermittent use for one a few hours a few days at most, it's hard to justify paying $20-$30 to buy a much more expensive fluorescent bulb or even a more expensive LED type that can put out about the same lumens.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Outdated
