I've been using paper filters for a long time. I searched Google for the best paper filters to buy and found a permanent filter. My wife and I try to reduce paper consumption (napkins, paper towels, etc.). Why haven't I thought about how many paper filters we use? We just cleaned it with soap and hot water and it was ready to use. Made coffee this morning. It caught all the bases and was very easy to clean afterwards. 10/10Edit: I downgraded this rating by one star as I kept noticing that finer grounds were getting through the filter and into the coffee pot. It's not the end of the world; We just let it sink to the bottom and don't finish the rest of the pot. We do not use specially finely ground European coffee or anything similar. Regular store-bought ground coffee only. Paper filters have always caught them, but we keep the permanent filter because we want to save paper. It doesn't seem to make the coffee more bitter.
