My wife needed a dark brown yarn for the garden railroad tracks she was printing. PETG seems to be the best type of filament for outdoor use, so I did some research. It turns out that almost nobody makes dark brown PETG thread. I found this yarn from Ataraxia Art for $16.99 for a 1kg spool. At this price I was quite skeptical but on the other hand I wouldn't lose much if it dropped. Spring. I was very pleasantly surprised by this thread! The label says "no bubbles, no tangles, no clogs" - and that's exactly what I experienced with this thread! It has been exquisitely wrapped and looks beautiful and uniform as shown in the photos above. It comes vacuum packed and a separate dual roll vacuum bag has even been provided for storage (for use with a vacuum hose). The label states that the printing range is 200-240 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the tower I printed (see photos - tower and base) went from 250 to 200 degrees Celsius. I could easily peel the tower at 200 and 205 degrees Celsius, as well as at 210 degrees with sufficient pressure. At higher temperatures it was quite strong with no delamination with little effort. It even printed well at 245-250 degrees Celsius, which is above Ataraxia's printing range. Tension was very low for the most part and could even be improved by changing the retract settings a bit (I used 6mm, 25mm/s). All protrusions printed well and the giant bridges printed well at temperatures of 235ยฐC and above. I printed on a glass platform with three coats of hairspray to avoid over-gluing the glass, which worked great (I used borders since it's a HIGH tower). If there's a downside it's that dark browns don't sand well, ie the sanded areas are definitely lighter than the non-sanded areas. I assume this applies to most obscure threads and is probably not this thread's fault. I can't speak about the strength of this PETG compared to other brands as this is my first roll of PETG, but I can say it's the strongest (only) brown PETG I could find ;-). Seriously, this thread from Ataraxia appears to be a top quality product - way more than I expected for the price. I highly recommend you try Ataraxia PETG thread!
