I bought this player to replace the Fiio X7 Mark II, which was equipped with an AM3B amplifier with a 4.4 balanced output. I liked everything about Fiio, but Made In Chica made itself felt, primarily with a poorly designed operating system and not inspiring confidence in the build quality. Plus the battery drained very quickly. Although the sound was very decent. My Sennheiser HD700 (with 4.4 balanced jack) swayed with a bang and gave out a really audiophile sound. But in early November, I decided to choose a player more reliable in terms of software operation and build quality / materials, while not inferior to Fiio in sound. I chose between Astell&Kern KANN and Sony NW-WM1A. The sound of Astell&Kern KANN sounded quite good, but its well-known continuous flow turned out to be quite muddy to my ears, and in terms of scene and detailing, the player was noticeably inferior to the same Fiio X7 Mark II. As a result, I bought Sony NW-WM1A. As soon as I took the player in my hands, I immediately felt the quality level of Sony. He is perfect. I indicated the advantages and disadvantages of the player in the relevant sections, now more about the sound. It drove my Sennheiser HD700 (150 ohms) through the balanced output with ease, which indicates a fairly good amplification in the player. Naturally, I was wondering what the sound quality would be like compared to the Fiio X7 Mark II. Can't download that Sony is way ahead of Fiio in terms of scene, detail, and tool rendering. These parameters for the players are almost similar, with a slight advantage for Sony. But the presentation of music itself has a completely different character. She is strict and sterile. If Fiio, with all its high sound quality, sometimes allowed itself liberties and frankly fouled on some albums, then Sony's presentation is thorough and devoid of unnecessary emotions. The sound is analytical and impartial, while it does not slip into dry and boring music playback, since there is still a small fraction of Sony's signature color in the player, which gives the presentation of musicality. To sum up, in this price range, the Sony NW-WM1A is the perfect player for me.
