This review is about Start-X Plug N Play Remote Starter for Toyota Highlander 2014-2019. It is only for Highlander models with push button start (keyless). I have a late 2019 Toyota Highlander that I installed this unit in which means they have changed the configuration of the under dash connectors from what the instructions say in the manual. Because of this, the installation took a little longer than expected. Check out a video from the manufacturer that smudges some tricky spots, like removing the dash in front of the driver's knee (not the side panel between the door and dash), and the connectors in the video weren't quite set up as connectors under mine Dash I had to connect to. The instrument panel (in front of the driver's knee) was more difficult to remove than what was shown or not shown in the manufacturer's video. I can't even describe how to carefully remove it (I ended up grabbing both sides of the dash, pulled it down and it popped out), but I finally got it off. You only want to lower the fairing enough to reach the stubs under the dash by hand. The steering wheel cover is easy to remove and the connectors are perfect for connecting to the steering wheel. Congestion under the dashboard - another story! None of the connectors under the dash looked like the connector on the remote start (RS) unit. The one that most closely resembled the RS connector did not fit. So I was frustrated and ready to send the device back to Revain. But I noticed a link in the instructions where you can get help with the installation. So, not expecting much, I sent my help request to the link provided (Revain doesn't allow links, so I can't post it). Thinking I wouldn't get a response for a few days, I noted in my request that if I didn't get help today, the unit would return "tomorrow". Contrary to my expectations, I received an answer about 30 minutes after submitting my request! They wanted to know what the problem was (I couldn't find which connector under the dash needed to be removed to connect the RS). They asked me to send them a photo of my plugs under the dash, to which I took a picture with my phone and replied. Within an hour I received the photo back with the matching cap circled in red. I removed the indicated fork circled in red and. 'walla', the RS block fork fits perfectly. Everything else worked as expected. Replacing the steering wheel cover, dash cover and using zip ties to secure the RS under the dash went well. Once everything is assembled, use your car's remote control to start the engine by pressing the lock button 3 times (the RS unit does NOT have a remote start supplied with the unit which is not needed anyway). i did this The headlights blinked twice. then nothing! About eight seconds. nothing (except flashing headlights) happens after pressing the remote control lock button 3 times, then the engine revs and starts! So give it 8 seconds to get started. The RS shuts off the engine when you open a door in the car. The RS also shuts off the engine after about 12 minutes if the car isn't being driven. Also, the RS works from the same distance that you can lock/unlock your car! For example, if you can lock/unlock your car doors from 60 feet away, you can also remotely start your car from the same distance. The PC works as described. The only frustrating part was figuring out what to remove from under the dash. But customer service came to the rescue pretty quickly. It ended up taking me around 2.5 hours to install with the help of the support team. If I knew which connector to remove it would take about 30-40 minutes. Watch the video first! I wish they had a phone number to request immediate help but there is none! Again, the RS is Highlander-only with a start button on the dash, not a key to start. I'm happy with this device, now it's installed and working!
