This box allows the light to be placed further forward (away from the wall) in wired installations to reduce glare from the reflective surface of the worktop. Wired under cabinet lights generally need to be installed as close to the wall as possible to avoid or reduce impact on the NM (Romex) cable according to regulations (which state that the NM cable should not be exposed in an accessible area may). You can position this box as close to the wall as possible and use a bridge to connect the light to the box. The lamp can then be placed closer to the front edge of the cabinet for better illumination. Before installing the light, I held the light in both positions and asked my wife which position she liked best—back to the wall or directly under the edge of the cabinet—but still hidden by the overlay. She agreed that the one farthest from the wall looked best. So not just me. Another point to note is that you only get a length of 14-2 NM cable through the very small Romex connector that is included. If you try to plug two NM cables into this connector, one for power and one for the next device, you will run into problems. You need a piece of NM cable that powers each device.
