. but now the light is fading. Tried new batteries and hope they last. It takes 3 AAA and I used regular Duracell batteries, not special ones - maybe that's why I have a short battery life. PROS: Looks attractive, battery operated so can be placed anywhere, can be taped or nailed in place, although I've only put mine on stairs to try different locations. It lights the area well so I can see how it's possible to walk up/down the stairs at night. Turns on when I go up or down a step, or when I walk in front of a staircase (facing the light), so handy. Illuminates in total darkness or in very low light. Stays on for about 30 seconds, on-off works fine. CONS: The battery compartment is screwed on with 4 screws (what?) and the on/off/auto switch is also behind this plate. You can omit the backplate altogether, but then you lose a mounting surface for tape or holes for nailing. I just installed mine on the stairs - one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs works great. If the batteries work and the LED bulb works, I will be very happy with this little flashlight.
