There is a right way and a wrong way (I think) when placing the tray liner. Make sure the end of the handle doesn't cover the Endurance logo and you'll see the bars fit the tray better (behind the grooves on the bottom of the tray). If you place it the other way around, the bars will move more. Also, I leave the tray on the counter for five minutes before breaking the ice cubes. My five year old daughter knows how to do this (although I held out the tray to her). Ice shards will remain after cracking, this is normal. I just select the cubes and put them in a container for future use. I also try to only fill it 3/4 full. I've experimented with adding hot filtered water to the tray before freezing, which makes the ice cubes a bit translucent - the cloudy part is smaller and closer to the bottom center of the cube. However, I've noticed that my cubes are smaller when using regular temperature water, so I might try filling them to the brim when freezing hot water. In any case, this tray is perfect for effortlessly preparing large cubes. I hate scrubbing ice cubes out of silicone molds and I'm sure this will outlive my plastic trays too much. My husband's family had some old metal trays that he said were cumbersome to use, but maybe he just had to take my advice too hard to be successful.
