It's not always the media!

I should have written this review a few months ago, but I finally got around to it. In fact, I've always been a staunch supporter of TDK media. I love the clean look and the fact that you can buy both regular and DL and they look the same. One is gray and the other is blue. However, performance has become an important issue. I quickly learned what the term "stand" means. I had about 50% errors on a box of blank DVD media in DL. Single layer media has always worked well. TDK customer support is…

So far: 6 achievements - 2 coasters

I give these 4 stars because of the price and the obvious quality. While browsing freeware (like DVDFlick) I made my own 2 coasters. I've found two programs that work: IMGBurn (free) for burning ISO or VOB, and ConvertXtoDVD (which I had to buy) for burning non-image files to DVD. I have not yet made coasters with these two programs, I use them at 4x speed. Considering the cost of these DVDs compared to the consecrated Verbatims everyone is talking about, I'm definitely glad I gave them a try…

Reliable at 4x recording

I thought it was a good price but the few discs I wasted before realizing I can only record at 4x on a Mac mean that I will choose another brand in the future. Attempting to record at 6x and 2.4x on a Mac results in poor burning, but 4x works fine. Recording was much smoother on desktop and 4x works alongside 2.4x. I bought these because they were a good price and thought they were an improvement over the Memorex discs. I was shocked to see disk after disk not working on a brand new iMac. So I…

Poor quality: DVD+R discs

After reading the reviews I was hoping the quality had improved. Not true. I needed these DVDs to back up some of my original movies to DVD-9. I burned the DVD images to a hard drive before I started burning. It took five blanks to make 2 holes with no errors at 4x speed. Despite expecting some failures, such a high failure rate was disappointing.

Dual Layer Discs TDK

These discs are fine. The problem is the number of failed disks. Every pack of blank DVDs I've seen was defective, but they seem to have more defects than average. However, one weird thing was that sometimes I end up fine on my DVD burner and play it once with my Power DVD program but then never play it again on the computer or DVD player. But I've had more good ones than bad so far, so I think it was worth it for the price, just make sure you don't overpay when you get them.

So far so good: Accessories and consumables

These dual layer tdk DVDs have worked great for me - 8 discs have been burned so far with an external Apple USB drive with 8 positive results. Driven. I took the advice of some other posters on the web and shot at 4x, although I had the option to shoot faster just to be on the safe side. This was a much better buy than some larger quantities for the same price when you ended up getting half the coasters before it was all said and done. I usually use Ritech Media but being on a small budget and…

No longer a reliable product

For almost a year these TDK 8x DVD spindles have been one of the best secret offers on the market: compared to other reliable but extremely expensive and much slower Verbatim and Sony DL it was a steel . For about half the price, they burned out faster and delivered the same quality, but with a scrap ratio of about 1:9. I used to buy spindles in sets of 2 because I tried so many. But the rest is true. After the manufacturer changed production sites, the quality almost collapsed. I didn't…
