Reliable and durable the best among computers and accessories

I have had very good experiences with this KVM switch. However, after experimentation, it turned out that only a Tripp Lite brand PS/2 to USB converter would properly support a non-PS/2 computer connected to this device. I'm using an old reliable D-Link DKVM-2 switch in my main workstation and it's the most promising desktop alternative I've ever evaluated. I've had conflicting results for several years with two very popular IOGEAR models that gave stuttering VGA output to the monitor. I am now

It works, but the documentation and user interface could be better.

Unit works well although all cables have both PS2 and USB ends leaving the PS2 ends unused and requiring Velcro to secure. The software isn't the best user experience, but it does the job. The permission is a bit odd, but it certainly gives you access to the console when you need it, so overall everything works fine. The documentation is a bit sparse, I'd love to figure out how to change the authentication model to clash with AD credentials, but no luck so far. It would also be nice to be able…

BEWARE! Non-standard cables!

It turns out it doesn't work like normal KVM switches: it uses special, non-standard adapter cables that don't seem to necessarily be available on amazon.com. or if they are expensive. So you can't, for example, replace your existing 2-port KVM with this one and reuse your existing cables. And you might not even be able to use THIS KVM because you can't find the cables you need. This KVM switch comes with only ONE cable to connect mouse, keyboard and video; You must purchase at least two…

Good form factor, easy to use

The problem with many inexpensive KVM switches is that the cable connections take up two or three sides, the selection buttons (if any) are on top, and the hotkey switching sequence is cumbersome. This switch has all the wiring connections on the back, buttons/LEDs on the front, and a reasonable (but not the best I've come across) hotkey sequence. The metal body is impressive and worked flawlessly for about a month. The form factor allowed me to install it under the shelf where it's convenient…

Reliable performance: external components

I had several KVM switches and many of them failed after a few months. So this time I spent a little more for something more permanent. Although larger than some, this block is much smaller than I expected. Somehow it looks bigger in the pictures. That's good because it fits perfectly on the table. It is a good weight and very well built with a mostly metal body. It comes with a main unit and proprietary cables that connect to the computer and monitor/keyboard/mouse. At first I didn't think I…
