Plugged in and works

The ideal cable for applications that require additional cable length. Plugged it into a USB port on a Win 10 laptop, ran an application that required a serial connection, and everything worked great. In all honesty, this cable is more powerful than the adapter that came with the app and far superior in design to the similarly priced USB to RS232 cable I recently returned.

Pros
  • Computer cable adapter
Cons
  • Modern

Worked great - Computer Accessories and Peripherals

So. Why that? Well, I have a brand new telescope mount from iOptron, but they need a serial port to update the firmware(!). I HAD an old USB/Serial port converter but didn't have a Windows driver. I installed THIS converter, automatically connected the drivers for Windows 10 (didn't even have to fiddle with the mini-disk) and everything worked fine, my mount updated its firmware without incident. Very happy

Suitable for Raspberry Pi

This review relates to the CableCreation USB-RS232 adapter (FTDI chipset). I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running Raspbian Jessie and this adapter connects and configures itself automatically - no drivers to install. It gets the device name "ttyUSB0" if it's the first USB serial adapter, "ttyUSB1" if it's the second, etc. It's easy to use with the Python "serial" module. This is a good, cheap, and easy way to add serial ports to your Pi.

Pros
  • Computer accessories and peripherals
Cons
  • Damaged

I was trying to avoid buying a special cable for the device from the manufacturer. Think 1000+ markup (literally). I first ordered another USB to RS-232 cable (multiple chipsets) but didn't notice that the product drivers listed FDTI. This cable fits the bill and works at a fraction of the cost. In general, if you are using this cable for a DIY project, I would suggest spending a few bucks more on an FDTI cable. It seems to work better with Windows 10 (unfortunately I'm forced to use it) and…
