The temporal artery is always more accurate than oral stimulation, unless your patient has recently been outside and you (read: your technician) can pinpoint the position of the temporal artery. As for temperature accuracy, tests on much more expensive machines at my institution have shown very good results. It was just more comfortable on a busy floor sometimes, especially during flu season.

As a nurse I'm a bit of a snob with thermometers. I really like this thermometer, especially for the price. I have a feeling this will get you pretty accurate readings, at least compared to all the others that can cost you an arm and a leg and still give questionable results. My husband has CKD and is on peritoneal dialysis at home. So we take his vitals four times a day. This thermometer constantly showed its temperature of 99 degrees or higher. His temperature is constantly 97 over 98. Fever can mean peritonitis and quick death.
