Good but can hang loose in places causing rubbing.

I like the one sided tongue, love the outsole, I thrive on hiking in this shoe but I find that when I run I get hot spots and rubbing on the ball of my foot and ankle more than other Altra running shoes. I ordered size 11 because I have 4 in Torin and Escalate 11, some people said Superior can be worn without socks, tried this, wore my Achilles tendon down a mile so won't be doing it again. I like these shoes best, but I liked my individual visors more.

Pros
  • Can help you complete your run or hike more comfortably
Cons
  • Cannot provide adequate pronation support

Fewer laces, sharper corners than Superior 2

This is a preview as I've only ridden it about 20 miles so far. I can't solve the wear issue (which was an issue with the Superior 2). My Superior 2 are almost worn out so I had to get something newer. Pictured above is a worn Superior 2. The Superior 4 fits the same as the Superior 2 (ie 11.5 is my usual 10.5ft). The upper of shoe 4 has a firmer material (compared to shoe 2 with more mesh). Compared to the Superior 2, there are only four pairs of eyelets (5 pairs on the 2) and they start…

Pros
  • With proper care, it will last a lifetime
Cons
  • Can cause bruising

Excellent shoe chiropractor recommended

This is a great shoe if you have foot problems, it gives your toes more room. It fits great, my chiropractor recommended this brand. It was a great price for this brand. The shoes are well made.

Pros
  • I have ridden several hundred kilometers in these shoes and they are still in good condition. The best shoes I've ever had.
Cons
  • Stone protection was not included as advertised

Very handy for errands or training.

Love for Altras I first bought the Superior 3 about 2.5 years ago and fell in love with the comfort and space they create to make you feel as natural as possible. So I opted for the Superior 4. Really comfortable and great for all day wear.

Pros
  • Can be a great gift for those who love outdoor activities
Cons
  • Might feel too harsh on the trail

Special shoes at a good price

Light shoes with an aggressive profile, walking on asphalt is uncomfortable. The toe box is really over the top and offers plenty of room without being too slack, which is good for the hills. I like that they are flat. The tongue design is not to my liking, but it works well. The biggest complaint is that the laces are easy to untie and make it difficult to tie the shoes without being too loose or tight. Once you get that everything is fine and overall for the price they are great.

Pros
  • Protects against injuries and fatigue of the legs
Cons
  • Difficult to return or exchange

Great shoes for hiking and running

I've been using Altras for years and they fit me best of any pair I've had for lateral support and comfort. and support while walking, and they look great too.

Pros
  • These were good shoes for the price.
Cons
  • Limited ankle support

Comfortable shoes - my new review

The wide toe and balance make the shoe very comfortable. I ordered another pair but they couldn't fill it and wrote a nice letter explaining and apologies. Altra changed the design a bit and isn't comfortable for those old legs so I'll look somewhere for the #4 version. The supplier was very polite.

Pros
  • Provides quick and easy foot movement
Cons
  • May cause toe cramps

Defective pair or possible design flaw

It may just be the pair I received but the plastic support around the front of the shoe has collapsed inwards on one of the shoes with very little wear. So the front of the base of the toes is being squeezed together and actually touching the top of my middle toes. It's very uncomfortable. Too bad, because otherwise the shoes are good. Good wide toe box as advertised and surprisingly good dry grip. However, if it is wet, beware! They're like ice skates.

Pros
  • Great shoes with cool side lacing
Cons
  • May not provide enough padding for some people

Look no further! to my rating.

Amazing shoes! I wore them on my first trip on an 8 mile hike and they were perfect! My legs didn't hurt at all and was incredibly supportive of my legs. I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for a place to flex your toes but need heel support and comfort, look no further. You couldn't ask for a better deal on shoes than this one. You must buy them for your next adventure.

Pros
  • Provides perfect balance and feel with every step
Cons
  • Limited customer support available

Just an obvious mistake

Very comfortable shoe for thousands of steps a day at work and on the trails. If, like me, you don't like high-end shoes, these might be for you. But I don't know if it was my feet, or my use, or a malfunction on my part, but it's very likely that the upper fabric ripped at the corner of the big toe.

Pros
  • This is the third version of the excellent shoe I own and the only shoe I wear. Fits as expected and the lacing is perfect
Cons
  • May be too hard for some people

Age. The perfect combination of cushioning, the tread stays wet. Wide toe box for medium distance running. Perfectly guides water in muddy water and perfectly protects toes on rocks. I've had several pairs. I use the more powerful Alta for ultra stuff, but this particular model does it all in a variety of shorter-range conditions. And given the low drop, I also use it in interval/tabata/db workouts. With this very specific model I run where the waves at the beach stretch to some hard sand and…

Pros
  • Wide toe and light
Cons
  • Not suitable for muddy trails

Too loose and too slippery.

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever bought. It was very difficult for me to find shoes with a wide enough toe and thin heel. These fit perfectly. I almost don't feel like I'm wearing anything at all. Unfortunately I cannot give these shoes a good rating. The sole is too soft and lacks grip on wet, slippery surfaces. In less than two weeks of wear, I can painfully feel every stone I step on. Speaking of being too slippery, good luck going shopping on a rainy day.

Pros
  • Offers excellent value for money
Cons
  • Limited arch support

Shoelaces - my new review

This is the first time I have bought sneakers with the shape of the foot. These are great running shoes. My legs felt very good. The only downside is the laces are too loose and too long, 54 inches long. They are too long for my liking and I had to tie them constantly. I had to order laces for 27 inches.

Pros
  • Suitable for most foot sizes
Cons
  • Not suitable for long-distance runs

Can't ask for more in a trail running shoe

No heel sag, enough cushioning for my mud/irregular rock and stone clusters, huge toe box, comfortable. What else can be? I ask about shoes? Some people complained that the laces were too long, so I expected to buy new ones. NO! Shoelaces are perfect, just long enough to tie tightly with a double knot. Learn to tie your shoelaces, noobs. Put them on and break my PR on a 4.5 mile stretch. Switching from the Brooks Ghost 9, which had a huge heel drop, was just crap for my running form. LOVE THESE

Pros
  • Ideal Use: Trail Running, Trail Running
Cons
  • Repair

Some Good, Worst

Pros: * Roomy toe box is standard on Altra shoes * Light weight * Tongue doesn't move as it is sewn into boot on one side Cons: * Grip on wet surfaces and rocks is TERRIBLE. Somehow these brand new shoes don't handle rocks/boulders much better than my half worn road running shoes when trail running and hiking * I can feel EVERY little twig and rock through the sole like there is no cushioning at all. I slipped on and off the included skirt guard and it certainly helped, although it cost me some

Pros
  • Weight: 7.9 oz. / 274g
Cons
  • Expensive

Felt like old cheap water shoes.

Trail running shoes I've now used a couple of pairs as hiking shoes, I also occasionally run trails in them. I like to trade stability for agility and weight. So far I've enjoyed this exchange. They are extremely minimal and I thought that was a good thing before trying them. . . They looked like cheap 90's water boots to me. They just slipped around my feet. With every climb, I slipped sideways with every step. In mountainous and rocky terrain it was safer and better without them. The only…

Pros
  • Stack height: 21mm
Cons
