Doubled the speed of my Raspberry Pi 3 NAS (from 11MB/s to 20MB/s)

Instructions for replacing the built-in (non-gigabit) Ethernet:1. Connect this to your Pi2. Sign in to Terminal 3. Run: sudo reboot4. Wait for loading, login, execute: ifconfig5. Make a note of HWaddr for eth0 (built-in ethernet) and eth1 (this adapter)6. Create a file: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules7. Add the following two lines: SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="new", ATTR{dev_id} =="0x0", ATTR{ type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"SUBSYSTEM=="net"…

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

for MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 15, Google Chromebook and more for my 2017 MacBook Pro that only has USB-C ports has. While it wasn't plug and play, I got it working on macOS 10.12.5 using the driver I found here (plugable.com/drivers/usb3ethernet/) for ASIX 88179, which was released in April. It would be nice if Revain provided a link to drivers for the products it sells under the Amazon Basics brand, but after about 30 minutes I was able to find the driver and get it working. Hope this helps and…

Unusable computers and accessories

I have tried using it with built-in drivers for Windows 10 as well as drivers downloaded from the manufacturer's website as of November 2018. The key will feel HOT after being inserted for just a few minutes and then stop working completely. Sometimes it stops working after a few minutes without warning, other times it disconnects from Windows (as if you disconnect it, but it actually doesn't) and keeps reconnecting. The only way to get it working again is to unplug it and plug it back in…

wow revvan I thought you were high tech.

The driver is provided on an optical disc. For those of you who don't know, a driver is software that an operating system needs to identify and run new hardware components. Without a working driver, the device is useless. If Amazon was serious about making a good product, they would store the driver on a flash drive or provide a download link on the product page. Some people post third party websites to download the driver, but I would prefer to get the driver from a trusted source. People can…

UPDATE: Works great with Nintendo Switch and can close the dock door!

UPDATE: Nintendo Switch [06-27-2018]I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and this adapter works fine with it (though with a maximum download speed of around 100Mbps). A lot of the reviews say that the adapter doesn't fit in the back of the dock and that the cable is too short, but I found a way to make it work! Basically, plug in the ethernet adapter and bend it towards the exposed part at the top of the docking station. Then route the Ethernet cable in an S-shape from top to bottom on the left…

Pros

Now compatible with macOS Big Sur

UPDATE: As of May 21st, a driver is available on asix.com.tw that is now compatible with macOS Big Sur on Mac Intel and M1 computers. With the driver installed, the device works perfectly. This key is based on the Asix AX88179 chip. Before the release of Big Sur, this wasn't an issue. But now Asics has no driver that works normally under Big Sur. They have a driver that you can download, but the installation part requires you to boot into the recovery partition and DISABLE SYSTEM INTEGRITY…

Pros
  • Slim design
