aluminum ladder.

This mudra is NOT made of copper, but copper-plated aluminum. This information is not in the product description or on the packaging. Solder is not required at all. Do yourself a favor and buy real copper speaker wire. It's easier to work with and picks up the solder like it should.

Like this cable: Cables and Connections

Like this cable. Great price and the system sounds great (Klipsch 5.1 Home Theater System). I'm very glad I went with the 14 gauge over the smaller 16. They can be a bit of a beast to fit into the speakers' speaker wire terminals due to the size of the cable, but it's worth it. The rubber sheathing on it is strong but also easy to cut if necessary during installation.

ALUMINUM/GESTER CABLE, copper-plated! Non-Copper

The wire is real copper-plated or tinned aluminum, not pure copper. I'd be surprised if this actually requires 14 Aug power, as it is nominally, as older aluminum wire tended to be thicker, at least in homes, for the same gauge of copper. - Use on the wall, but violates fire safety regulations for use on walls.

  • Speaker Wire
Cons
  • Quick Guide

Why you should care that IT'S NOT COPPER, read on.

Copper-coated aluminum has a resistance approximately ten times that of copper. So if you're looking at that 14 AWG wire because you want to handle more current (otherwise why would you need a thick gauge wire?), then keep looking. Google a wire resistance chart and you will see that 1000 feet of real 14 AWG copper wire has a resistance of about 2.5 ohms, while this copper clad aluminum wire has about 25 ohms per 1000 feet. You have to be careful, you pay 14 AWG and actually only get 24 to 22โ€ฆ

Just what I needed at a great price

No complaints. 1/10th the cost of such wire at a giant hardware store that rhymes with "repo" (if they had it, which they didn't). However, I don't believe in the religion of "oxygen-free copper megawire" and believe that ohms are ohms and farads are farads and if you use components like wire that meet the electrical requirements you will get what scientific theory predicts . The way it sounds is pretty silly to judge from my point of view. This wire sounds exactly what I would expect in myโ€ฆ

Real copper, sounds great

Sturdy cable. I'm not sure what people are saying about them being aluminum or coated. they are copper. They work well, be aware that if you're doing a run longer than 20ft, consider a heavier insulated wire than this (and possibly thicker), but they work well for me; the speakers sound pretty good. I'm sure some very high quality cables would probably improve the sound by 2-5% but is it worth the money? You decide. I like great sound on a budget, it suits me. Thank you Rewin!

  • Large and bulky
