This is the simplest, best performing model I've ever owned. It breaks most macadamia nuts and black walnuts, there's seldom one that's harder to break, I put them in the toaster for a little and then no problem. It's fun to use and no mess. Love it! This item is manufactured to be very safe. There is no nut that can withstand this - in fact, you could use it to smash nuts like a hammer. The only downside I've found is that the end of the "bolt" is so smooth that a rounded or smooth-shelled nut (e.g. a pecan) can slip out when pressure is applied. So it does what I need it to do. It's not easy though, and my arm bones feel like they're going to snap every time I use this thing. I thought I had strong hands, but they aren't. I only split hickory nuts and the size seems smaller than what this particular nutcracker was designed for.
