My Home Depot Hand Truck Wheel Mounting Solution

Two weeks after purchasing a new hand truck, the thrust washer fell off the axle and was lost. For several months I had to steer carefully to keep the left wheel from slipping off the axle. I finally bought this set of stem clamps and everything is solved. They're easy to install and hopefully a lot more reliable than previous press washers.

Pros
  • Axle Cages
Cons
  • Will Write Later

Easy to use and works well

I had a garden trailer with lazy wheels. It came with a 3/4" axle. Standard wheels use a 5/8" axle. I replaced the axle and wheels with the standard 5/8. Instead of trying to drill through a hardened steel axle for a cotter pin, I used these rings. They slide on the axle and lock the wheels. They were so good my neighbor did the same on his trailer.

Pros
  • Clamp-On
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

5/8 clamps are a meager .6255 ID. Had to drill them out to use them on a wheelbarrow axle. I have access to the necessary lathe. If you don't do this, make sure the shaft you plan to mount it on is at least 2-3k undersize and free of burrs or dents. A build that should have taken five minutes took me an hour longer.

Pros
  • Couplings, Clamps and Universal Connectors
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
