💡 Aqueon T8 Replacement Lamp - Daylight Bulb Review

Didn't last long enough for my aquarium. It was brighter than what we had before, but even though it works on a timer, ie it doesn't work for more than 8 hours, it still burns out very quickly.

Terrible waste of money. I bought this replacement bulb for my aquarium and it blew out 3 days after putting it in the hood. I know it was the correct model for the hood because we checked it 3 times and it was exactly the same model and everything that was there before. I've always been under the impression that every lightbulb should last longer, but apparently not with this one.

This is NOT a full spectrum daylight lamp! This is a full spectrum lamp in a full spectrum daylight box. The color is not white light, it is green light. It's terrible! Either Aqueon screwed it up, or the seller screwed it up. In any case, it is advertised with it. There is a big difference between full spectrum daylight and just full spectrum bulbs. My poor fish!

This lamp will eventually become obsolete as the lamps will be replaced by LED blocks. LED blocks last longer, are cheaper to run and generate no heat. I have used the bulbs as long as the fixture they were built into was working but then I noticed the fixture wearing out so I decided to replace the entire unit and I am very glad I did so. Otherwise it is a very good lamp and should last a long time.

The color temperature of this product is 8000K. So of course I expected it to match the 8000K lightbulb I already have, but it doesn't. It seems green enough to give the impression that I have more algae in my tank than before. True 8000K bulbs make your aquarium look great; it's not like this. Update Nov 2013: It is clear that Aqueon has a quality control issue as I have received two Aqueon Full Spectrum lamps packed in Full Spectrum Daylight boxes. Ordered one of these as an add-on last year for $5 - very pleased. The old lamp still worked, but I wanted to replace it for my plants. Read more recent comments on production changes but took a chance as it was still an additional item for only $5. The first lightbulb immediately started to flicker, it was very dark, you could hardly tell that the light was on. Revain responded immediately and kindly sent a replacement. The second light is the same. Now I regret not listening to the warnings…

The product is fine when you go to the store. I would not hold the manufacturer liable. I bought 2 bulbs for 2 different aquarium lights. Both packs of bulbs were crushed (each bulb is individually wrapped). The outer packaging they sent it in was perfect. They must have been damaged in the packaging. 1 bulb only flickers while the other works. However, something is dangling inside both lamps. They won't last long. The product was listed and pictured as an 8000K incandescent lamp (color rating). (The picture has changed a few times over the last few days as has the price.)
