Compared to the 27-inch Apple iMac for photo editing (updated)

I'm posting this review specifically for those who want to know how this monitor compares to a 27" Apple monitor or a 27" iMac for photo editing. So first, a clarification: I'm comparing the monitor panel of my late 2009 iMac to this ASUS PB278Q. And I'm making a comparison based on calibrating both monitors with a Coloreyes Display Pro calibration kit purchased within the last six months. My goal for this monitor is to turn it into portrait mode so I can work with my vertical photos in…

Great monitor but has some pretty annoying usability quirks

Great monitor, does what it's supposed to. Images look sharp and great. It operates at a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which is exactly the maximum possible resolution of dual-link DVI. This is what I use and it looks good. I chose DVI because all my devices can play it by default (including my trusty early 2008 MacBook Pro, which maxes out at that resolution). However, there is one important usability feature. Whenever your video signal is interrupted for any reason, even if it's just for a split

Great monitor, especially for photography

I'm a photographer and I've spent about 4 weeks learning about monitors. I rushed between ASUS PB278Q and Dell 2713H. It was a tough decision, but after comparing the features, price, and reading other reviews, I finally settled on the ASUS PB278Q. Here's why: 1. PLS panels deliver better blacks than IPS panels (important for photo editing)2. The mid-500 price saved me about $100 that I could spend on buying a calibration colorimeter3. There weren't really any negative reviews for the monitor…

Honestly, for the price, this is the best monitor you can buy.

Unless you're a professional gamer competing at the highest level, you really don't need a 1ms response time on a gaming monitor. In other words, you don't really need the TN panel that's often found in BenQ monitors (not all models, but definitely the most popular ones). Don't get me wrong, BenQ makes phenomenal monitors, but if you're like me and image quality/color is important, I recommend getting an IPS monitor. This is a newer technology that offers better color and quality. The…

An overview of a 1440p monitor in a 4k-filled world.

4K is trending in 2015. There are many displays for the same price or even less than the PB278Q! Why should I choose this one? I use this monitor for a variety of purposes and I assume you may be referring to one of them. First, this monitor connects to both a PC gaming rig and a Macbook Pro Retina. use both daily. // Graphics/Encoding/General Usage (Macbook Pro Retina connected via HDMI): - The screen real estate is great. Sure, a 4K monitor would be better, but 1440p is a great compromise…

Best 27 " 2560x1440 Monitor for the Money!

I bought 2 of these monitors mainly because I wanted all my monitors that I connected to my iMac to be the same 2560 x 1440 resolution. It was super important to me. I've done a lot of research on monitors and what to buy and which are 2560 x 1440. I found the 27" Asus PB278Q pretty good for my needs so I ordered 2 of them. What I like most about them is the resolution but not only that, the monitor has so many options like portrait mode (the monitor (can be turned sideways for spreadsheets)…

Works great with PTC Creo.

For the last 3 years I have been using a 27 inch Asus monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 to work with PTC Creo CAD. I love the size of this monitor but being a TN panel I find it tiring after a long day. My experience with IPS displays on several of my Chromebooks (HP Chromebook 11, Toshiba Chromebook 2, and Pixel) has shown me how much easier it is to view these IPS/PLS displays for long periods of time. This monitor dropped to mid $400s, I bought one. I connected this Asus to my Nvidia…

Risky monitor roulette? Although my cool and classy

Reading these reviews they range from "Oh my god AMAZING!" to "I just sent back my 4th." I don't know the ratio of good to bad people have to send back, but mine is excellent. Luckily, Revain's return policy is great. So if you receive a lemon there is no problem in sending it back and getting a good one. I know this isn't something some people should do, but keep trying until you get a good result. I tried a low resolution of 120Hz, I tried a triple screen, I went back to that 2560 x 1440 in…

This is a regular monitor in my rating

1440p is only available for the nvidia 600 series and the atitop line [that's wrong too, sorry]. MY gaming desktop with NVIDIA gets 1440p which is really nice. Games are fine on maximum settings. The included DVI cable should display 1440p if you have DVI connectivity. Need a good GPU to display 1440p.<<<< That's wrong, sorry. Tested on a Radeon 5570HD card on a multimedia PC; only works with DUAL LINK/dvi cable, HDMI/DP does not work (with black borders). Hoping to see 1440p on all

Still going after 8 years

Bought this monitor in 2014. As of 2022, it has taken a back seat for a few years. Currently connected to Xbox S Series and PC. It is still used regularly. It has served me well and no problems. Zero dead pixels. Technology has advanced. However, without the benefits of HDR, 10- or 12-bit color, fast refresh, gsync and other new standards, it still delivers excellent image quality IMHO. Viewing angles are excellent, colors are crisp but text is clear. My 12 year old daughter uses it several…
