Great car for the price.

Added this cart to my Clearaudio Concept Wood and it has turned out much better than the MM cart it came with. More details and the bass is very pleasant. The only downside is that good presses sound even better, but bad presses are easier to spot. It makes you want to find only the best edition of the album to spin.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Clarity

falling needle. Good sound. microphone drop.

No comparison with other trolleys. I hooked it up to an Emotiva Audio XPS-1 phono stage on a ClearAudio TT and I love the overall sound. The bass is tight with no hum and the highs aren't harsh/bright. Don't get me wrong when you say it's not bright - it's harsh, but not so bright that it tires your ears. I used a cartridge alignment protractor (free, prints at correct scale) to align it. IIRC, I used a Loefgren protractor which should be available from VinylEngine.

not for metal disc players

The first one I received had a tilted console so I sent it back. The second I gave to a pro to install during my debut carbon project. When I got it home the cassette started playing but the body of the cassette was resting on the vinyl with some scatter on the record (slight warping). I later learned that all MC cartridges have very strong magnets and the iron based plate pulls them right through the vinyl. I had to send this in too. It would be helpful if this fact was mentioned in theโ€ฆ

That's great. for accessories

Hard to say if I'll end up preferring the Denon 301mk2 which I also own. I am using it installed on a 10G audio device shell on a Pioneer pl518. It might be an overstatement, but it seems to work well with both cartridges. The rest of my gear is the Rogue Pharaoh Integrated and Focal Elektra 1007be. I'm using a Denon SUT and either a Parks Audio Budgie or a Rogue's MC phono stage (haven't really decided yet). Overall, both Denon and Audio Technica are excellent performers, almost complementary.

Pros
  • Musical instruments
Cons
  • Something else

I started with Shure M97xE and then upgraded to AT440MLA which is very "detailed" and "understandable" (but be careful , as it includes a tricky curves equalizer) . In any case, while the AT440MLA is a great kart, it lacks bass and mids. It's too difficult to get those frequencies out, even with the extra EQ. On some recently remastered recordings like MJ's "Thriller" (Picture Disc ltd. Edition 2008) it sounds too bright and can cause listening fatigue. Always looking for perfection, I chose MC

Finally the perfect cartridge for me!

After listening to about 20 carts in the last 3 years, I've finally found my perfect sound! In combination with the very quiet and very powerful iFi Micro iPhono MM/MC phono stage, this is sonic happiness. It replaces the Denon DL-304 which is surprisingly clean but sometimes a bit too bright for me. In comparison, this pickup sounds very full and musical, but still detailed and with a wider soundstage. The Denon's low-ends sounded glassy and fuzzy to me, which is a shame because it's so goodโ€ฆ
