Definitely consumes energy from batteries. After a week of use, my batteries also measure about 1 volt higher when fully charged. When charging, they reach a maximum voltage of 38.7 volts, now they constantly exceed 40 volts. That's a great sign.

I installed this system a month and a half ago. My six year old golf cart was out of batteries. BLS has now brought these batteries to life for me. Since batteries are now very expensive, investing in BLS is worthwhile. Keep in mind that this isn't an overnight fix, but it does take time to work.

Easy to install on a 1993 EZ-GO golf cart. I installed it under the reversing switch where there was room for it. Used thermal paste to use the metal plate for heat dissipation. One caveat when installing: note that there is a support rod along the base inside that must be taken into account when determining mounting holes. Don't like it yet. When I first used it, it drained my 36 volt car batteries down to 27 volts to "auto shut off". I don't use my shopping cart very often. Most EZGO cars come with a smart charger. When the battery voltage is so low, it won't turn on. I had to disconnect the batteries, connect them in pairs at 12 volts and charge them with my car charger for 2 days.
