Based on our own experience, we found that the rubber seals do not hold up well under extreme weather conditions. While the bearings are advertised as weatherproof, we found they failed to provide adequate protection in heavy rain and high humidity environments.

Good bearings. Perfect fit, smooth rotation with very little resistance. My road bike hasn't had enough miles to speak of durability, but I'm optimistic.

So the rubber seal is not red (it's black) but for installing a bike wheel, who cares? After installation you can't see the bearings. I installed these bearings in the rear wheel of a Stans S1 Flow mountain bike. I removed the old bearings with a homemade bearing puller.
