This rating is based on detector performance and not long term reliability or warranty. I drive 200 miles a day in downtown Kentucky on Interstates 64 and 75. I also drive state highways. This is my first radar detector. While it works well, I'm not thrilled with the product. I decided to use it as a tool to help out of sight. He's doing it well enough. In situations where there is a speed trap, the cop IE will be stopped by the radar, it's probably 50/50 efficiency. In a situation where a cop is moving or better yet walking straight towards you on a dual carriageway I would lower this to 20/80 in favor of the cop. Out of range, which is about 1/4 mile at best. I just bought a Bel 955 to replace my Bel 980. From what I've read, the 955 offers all of the improved detection of Bel's pricier products, with some missing features you may have. not miss. Compared to my old 980, the 955 has far fewer false alarms and seems to pick up K and Ka radars much faster.
