My ride was flawless.

I was hesitant to buy after reading the reviews but took a chance because of the price and capacity. The drive arrived in a brown envelope and I thought oh great, the ex association must have scattered it. Opened it up, mounted the drive and it mounted immediately. Rebooted computer several times to see if it disappears from Device Manager. This happened after every reboot. I immediately started installing my Steam library. The drive is full minus 1GB that I intentionally left empty. There were

You may need screws

Received this today to add as a second hard drive for my new desktop. I opened the box and was a bit surprised that there were no documents or mounting screws inside. Just one hard drive and that's it. I had no trouble installing it after finding a couple of screws that came with my desktop. I turned on my system and it wasn't "here", tried disk management and it didn't work either. I had to go to the WD website and search. Not very difficult, just a major inconvenience. You could put a small…

Two years later, ZERO problems with this drive. In fact, on a recent drive test, this drive still reads just as "hard" as it did when it was brand new. There's a reason people like WD drives more than other brands of drives, because they know they're reliable, rarely break down, and if you ever had to, their RMA service is very fast. You'll want to use a WD Black Series drive if you're a "gamer" and need a data drive but don't want to pay for an SSD just yet. The Black series is more reliable…

UPDATED: After trying to simply reinstall Windows 10 on this drive, it seems unusable! I've been working on computers for 3 decades and I've never seen this before. Windows does not recognize the installation partition. Disk Management cannot even mount the drive (gives an I/O error). The WD software can't even test it (too many bad sectors). Third party software cannot delete it. My only option is an RMA which doesn't guarantee I'll get a new disc back and I have to pay for shipping! This is…

Have a great trip, terrible customer support

I've been using WD Black drives for years and never had a problem so on July 14th I ordered two more drives. I received the discs quickly, installed them and registered them on Western Digital's website. When I checked the warranty information for drives that were already registered, both only showed a 3-year warranty, although Revain's product page and Western Digital's own product page clearly state a 5-year warranty. I immediately submitted an online incident report to Western Digital and…

Reliable and works well as expected from a WD 3.5 " drive

I recently lost my computer due to a technology upgrade cycle and want data redundancy and handy disk clones to test with in different scenarios (different PCs, docking stations, hardware/software cloning, OS cloning, etc.) So I recently bought four of these (one from Revain and three from another PC vendor). All four worked as expected right out of the box, took almost 1TB of Windows 7 OS and user data from other PCs through various disk cloning processes, and then displayed them as expected…

DOA HDD - Serviceable after receiving a replacement from WD

Because it took me five months to buy all the parts I needed for my new computer and I knew when I bought this hard drive first I didn't what it was a dead hard drive until a few days ago. And of course, Revain.com only gives customers 30 days to return an item, not five months. So now I'm stuck on the WD support site to get a new drive. When I receive a working replacement hard drive, I will either update this post or post a new review for this product. This drive has 3 stars because of WD…

Mixed analysis and conclusions

5/23/14 This WD Black 1TB is used as the main storage device. I'm using a Kingston SSD as the OS/application drive. Creating and formatting the Win7 volume went smoothly. Transferring 500GB of data from my WD Red drive to this new WD Black drive went smoothly. This new black drive has much faster read speeds and very decent write speeds compared to other 7200RPM SATA drives I've used. I also noticed that the speed was impressive when I booted to win7 from it (I loaded a backup boot partition in
