Not for colored water appearance,

Great product but misleading brand name. Don't use it if you're expecting an instant "blackwater" style tank. The products they make to mimic black water don't actually color the water enough to be used that way. It should be noted that it only mimics the chemical composition of blackwater. Basically, if you want "colored black water," it's faster to just boil almond flakes and other plant materials!

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Functionality

Won't turn your water brown

This product is designed to provide the chemicals and formulation found in blackwater to encourage spawning. However, I'm sure it does a great job; If you are expecting this product to give your aquarium a dark water tint, FORGET IT. It temporarily colors the water a fluorescent lime green for about 12 hours. After passing through the filters, the water returns to its original color. I think the fish seemed to respond positively and be in a better mood overall.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Minor issues

This material seems to really appeal to some fish. My Corydora Julii population has doubled since adding a few drops to my regular water changes. I'm not sure if this is the main reason, but I've never seen them lay eggs (I'm no expert). The swarm of smoldering tetras I have with measles also seem to be brighter and more active. I live in an area where the water is a little hard (rather alkaline) so anything that can help soften it to tropical fish levels will help.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • High price
