Poorly supported on Linux; Controls are unclear

I have used several different Brother machines in the past, both computer and sewing machines, and so far all to my complete satisfaction. In fact, I can't talk to this machine's runtime utility yet, as I've just (finally) gotten it to work. These difficulties are the reason for my rating, which is far from the best. The scanner came with a power supply and cable, but not (as mentioned) with a matching USB cable; Luckily I have a couple of USB cables and one of them was the right configuration.

Worthy of Photos - Scanner

I've spent the last few days scanning hundreds of family photos into a digital archive with this device. In general, I am very happy with it and it performs its functions. However, some basic points make me wish I had opted for a more expensive model. PROS: Auto resizing is perfect. No matter what I load in, from ticket stubs to documents to panoramic photos, it always recognizes it with no problems. Initial setup is quick and painless. Despite all the malware complaints I've seen in all theโ€ฆ

THIS PRODUCT IS AN INCREDIBLE BUG AND YOU NEED TO BUY MORE FOR IT TO REALLY WORK!

This product really pissed me off. First, it came terribly late (about a week) and I thought it was lost forever. When it finally arrived I was happy and ready to set it up. NOT CORRECT. YOU MUST BUY YOUR OWN USB CABLE! Why don't they put it in the box? THIS IS literally the final ingredient to make this stupid thing work. So I bought a USB cable. Nowhere in the manual does it say what kind of cable this machine needs, so I disabled the port on the back of the machine. BIG MISTAKE. The manualโ€ฆ

Works well, but incredibly stupid design - what were they thinking

I bought this scanner from Revain yesterday after the Epson ES 400 I bought a few days ago arrived broken; there will be no duplex scanning. This scanner and the Epson ES 400 are similar and require a USB cable to connect to your computer as it is not a wireless scanner. Epson included such a cable and I found Epson's software and instructions better than Brother's. Epson's support didn't impress me, and until now I have not needed Brother technical support. I think the installation guide forโ€ฆ
