Bussmann CB185-50 CB185 Series Automotive Circuit Breaker: 50 Amps, Blade Terminal Connection - Plug In Mounting for Efficient Performance Review

Protects my 12v battery charging circuit when converting an S10 EV. It had a 50A fuse that kept getting hot and the terminals were corroding = bad connection. The circuit breaker has screw terminals for a secure connection. I have used the same CB (under the hood) on my electric power steering motor for 4 years and it has always worked well. I stick to trusted and trusted brand names for critical electrical components = you REALLY get what you pay for!

I used this on my trolling motor (boat/fishing) so the motor wouldn't burn out if I ran the prop onto a log and stopped the motor. I plugged it in, I accidentally shorted the circuit breaker (after plugging it in to test, I dropped the circuit breaker and it landed perfectly on the battery negative terminal). After a brief flash of sparks, the switch worked as it should. Very easy to reset, just return the lever to its original position. This is a great thing to have on a boat.

I am using my Bussmann 50Amp Switch on my Minn Kota trolling motor with 101 lbs thrust. The great thing for me is that pressing the red button at the top opens the circuit. So I don't need to install the switch together with the switch. When I want to turn off the power to my trolling motor, I just push the red button and the circuit opens, removing power to the motor. I bought this to replace the built in fuse on my trolling motor when I was remodeling my old fishing boat. As others have said, it's nice to be able to deactivate the shifter by pressing the red button and being able to safely hold the shifter. This item proved its worth in the first week I installed it when my (very old) trolling motor foot control caught fire and the switch tripped to limit further damage. Now I can buy the new trolling motor I wanted anyway without having to buy a new boat!

I used it for the first time last weekend and it worked as it should. I mounted it on top of the battery box on my pontoon boat. After connecting it to the battery with separate battery cables (don't forget you need these) I hooked it up to my electric motor and don't have to worry about it now. I have used these circuit breakers before on some of my higher amperage appliances (75A and 100A) and was looking forward to using the 50A version of this circuit breaker. In this application I used a 50A circuit breaker in place of a HEAVY DUTY fuse in my RV on a circuit that was giving me trouble.
