Super easy installation. Why pay someone else for it?

My dealer charges about $35 for a $5 filter change that only takes 5 minutes. On my Crosstrek you just have to open the hood, insert the clamp, remove the air hose from the holder, pull the old one, insert the new one, put the air hose back on and reinstall the clamp. My gas mileage improved, my acceleration improved, and it only cost me a few bucks and a few minutes. There's no reason not to do some of it yourself!

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Operating speed

Excellent air filter for the money

Works well. Replace it yourself and save a lot of money compared to the dealer. You can do it yourself in ten minutes or ask the dealer to charge you 50 or 100 to do it for you. ADVANTAGES: - Same as AutoZone or other auto parts stores, but about 30-50 percent cheaper - Works just as well as auto parts. OEM Brand - Saves you money every time you do it yourself. CONS: - Packaged in a slim retail box so you can better hope the shipping box/envelope is sturdy. Great air filter for your car.

FRAM Quality Fast Shipping Perfect Fit For 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Well the dealer charged $60 to replace this filter. I checked and found that the air filter was in a place where I could easily do it myself. Then I found out the price and instead of paying for the Subaru brand I went with FRAM. The car's design and mounting angle was awkward, but the filter fitted snugly and worked great. Make sure you don't select a cabin filter when searching for "air filter". This is an engine air filter. I bought two as I have to change them every 12,000 miles.

Fits and changes out the filter quickly and easily

Fits perfectly and took about 10 minutes and saved me about $50 working at my local dealer. No greasy hands, just soapy road dirt. The airbox attaches with 2 metal clips so no tools are needed on the Subaru BUT. There is very little space to remove the old air filter and insert a new air filter. It took a few minutes to wiggle the airbox cover just enough for the required clearance and took about 2-4 minutes to put it back in place so it was properly seated. It can be a little frustrating if…

Easy do-it-yourself replacement

Dealers, mechanics, quick oil changes, they all want to change their air filter. And they want to charge you a lot for the "privilege". Most people should be able to change the air filter in their car themselves. You don't want to or think you can't? It is in order. There is no judgment here. But if you want to save $40 on your next service, do it yourself. Either way, this filter works very well. When the dealer told me to change the air filter while my car was being repaired, I declined…

FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter, CA9997 - Highly Rated

This FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter, CA9997 is highly rated on blogs and vlogs and is cheaper here than it is in stores. Although our Subaru is under warranty I save money by installing it (along with the cabin air filter) as my dealer will deduct this from the required warranty service. And these two filters are installed without much effort. I had them change the oil and the oil filter! but that's a saving. (Plus, the filter is still fine when it's time to replace it for warranty service, so I…

Fram Extra Guard CA 9997 Air Filter

We have used them in the past (2008 Subaru Impreza OBS) and have been satisfied. We have also used other brands of filters including Subaru OEM filters. I felt the quality of the Fram air filters was on par with the OEM filters of the past, including the number of pleats. However, the one I received recently has significantly fewer wrinkles; More precisely only 14 folds. The image shows 22 or 23 pleats and this number is typical of comparable filters including the Fram pictured on this page…
