Big Disappointment

I bought this enclosure thinking I could just put two 4TB SSDs with data on them and run them like the JBOD configured enclosure. I wasn't worried about not being able to run TRIM on the SSDs since the SSDs wouldn't get written to very often, so I was able to remove them and cut them off with a TRIM-compatible SATA-to-USB cable. .I was wrong. Drives installed in the enclosure must be formatted in the enclosure to be accessible, even though they appear as separate drives in the computer. This…

Well built, works great, one flaw

First, speeds with two 1TB WD Blue 5400rpm drives, each with individual 125/100MB/s read/write top speeds: JBOD: 123 / 93RAID0 : 176 / 159RAID1: 123 / 83 The write speed for a 100GB file in RAID1 averages 110MB/s, which is fantastic. RAID 1 speed could be better, but overall the overhead of a SATA RAID controller is very small. I bought this for a backup and honestly if you're looking for insane speeds you're better off saving money for a second 2.5" drive and an m.2 enclosure with a much…

Good product - yes it's only SSD

I installed it with two Samsung 860 Evo SSDs. It is currently in RAID 0 and is getting around 875MB/s in both reading and writing in the BM. I copied a 675GB folder from another drive at 12:30pm. I haven't decided yet whether I'll live with RAID speeds or play it safe in a BIG configuration. When connected to my iMac Pro, the case is recognized immediately - there are no formatting barriers and no drivers. Since one of my two drives was previously formatted, I had to use a paperclip to press…

Almost perfect for hard drive case

I like the build quality. The aluminum body feels solid and looks good next to my iMac. I used a 3.5" RAID enclosure with two drives to store photos and music. The system has worked well for 5 years, but it is a large, heavy black box that is not very portable. Because I used standard 3.5-inch hard drives in it, the bottleneck for processing photos was the speed of the drives. The 3.5" RAID enclosure alone cost more than this small 2.5" case with a pair of 2TB Samsung EVO SSDs, so it seemed…

High power consumption, 5Gbps max speed even on 3.1Gen2 ports

Disappointing. First, it must be powered externally. If you are using two drives, it will not work with two from one USB 3.1 Gen 2 900mA USB-A port. This wouldn't be a huge issue if it worked on a Thunderbolt 3 port without additional power, but it still shuts down when I try to access both drives at the same time unless I'm supplying at least 1.5A external power ( My NUC has a BC1.2 connector, which is enough to power it when paired with a 900mA USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A connector). write down…

Hard Case for Computer Accessories and Peripherals

TL;DR: I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the case was limited to 6Gb/s (SATA III Single Speed) in JBOD mode, which was my intended use case. The full 10 Gb/s was achievable in RAID 0. At first this case looks like a rebrand of an identical Inateck case. Given that the Inateck case has an earlier date when it was first listed on Revain, I'm inclined to believe that Cable Matters is a rebrand and not the other way around. I personally don't like the rebranding, but it doesn't affect my…
