Great compact camera with very good low-light performance!

After purchasing the Nikon D5000 12.3MP DX DSLR with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7" Tilting LCD, I didn't take it because it was big too, and when I realized I'm not a professional photographer I sold it, relying solely on my iPhone 4 for my camera. It was fine for a while, but the iPhone 4's camera was too slow, cumbersome to use, and the image quality was okay but poor in low light. Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital Elph is just what I needed! Nice camera with bright lens

I bought one of these because I needed a used camera with f2.0 lens and HD video at a great price. Image quality is pretty good, but sharpness definitely lags behind CCD cameras and the newer BSI-CMOS PowerShots. This is the very first Canon camera to use such an image sensor and the only one that doesn't support 1080p HD video. Can't really fault Canon for not getting the image quality right the first time. A point-and-shoot juggernaut in a tiny, affordable package!

Canon have developed new variants of the SD/IS range (up to the 4500is I think) but the 4000 has the same features and commendable qualities when it comes to picture quality in general. The price difference between this and the newest in the line is an important consideration when choosing this particular model.
