CARL RM 15 15 Inch Cutting Trimmers Review

It's confusing because these 15 inch cutting mats are actually 18 inches long. So I really needed a 12 inch. I got these because the only Fiskers mats were listed as 12", I thought they were too short. Luckily I can cut them to size and they are reversible so I can flip them if they wear out.

I ordered 15 inch cutting mats. They arrived overnight! But when I put them in the cutter, they were too long. They were actually 18 inches instead of the 15 inches I ordered. and printed on the packaging. I didn't have the right tools to cut them, but with a pair of strong scissors I was able to dent them and then bend them back and forth to break them to fit. Everything else worked fine, and our paper again cut very smoothly.

I have an old model Fiskars paper cutter. I couldn't find a bandage for the part where the blade cuts. This "Carl RM 15" cutting mat works great. I had to trim the end a little (about 2 1/2 inches) with wire cutters. It's not sticky like the original piece, but this way I can flip it over and use both sides. The piece can fall off, but I can just put it back in. I thought of using double sided tape to attach it but then some is left over when I want to use the other side. It might even work…

Width fits my old big Fiskars cutting board perfectly. I had to trim the overall length a bit to fit (I used a hacksaw). Rather than permanently set it in a groove, I used a Tommy-style "removable" double-sided tape to hold it in place. So you can use 4x more (turn the "mat" insert front to back and then flip it over and do the same). With the new mat insert, the fit has definitely improved. I found a mat cheaper from an alternative source but at 2 plus S/H the cost was the same as Revain.

I was a little hesitant to get this mat as my model wasn't listed but when I got it I was very happy to be able to make sharp, clean cuts again. I figured my blade was to blame when my edges started looking a bit "fibrous" and jagged, but it was just old mat. $11 for two, it's not too expensive but I wish they had made it even more affordable to change the carpet every time I need to make a large batch of homemade cards.
