My grandfather asked for this cologne and I sent him a bottle. He said the scent was too subtle and that he remembered being much better the last time I tried it. I've never tried the "original" formula, but I agree that the scent is very subtle. He was citrus. However, it quickly disappeared.

I have been using Casswell Massey Number Six aftershave for over twenty years. I recently bought a new bottle online from Revain. Boy was I disappointed. The product looked the same, but it wasn't. I don't know if it spoils in the bottle or what. Look, if I wanted to smell like Brylcreem or Brut, that's what I'd order. This stuff isn't cheap so I don't know if I should try to place another order to replace it or something.

Interestingly, Caswell Massey claims this formula dates back to the 17th century, and yet it still smells different to me than a bottle I bought a few years ago. Either it ages well in the bottle and smells better over time, or the timeless formula has changed. I suspect the latter. Luckily the smell was gone in less than an hour. Unfortunately, Revane won't take it back.

I have enjoyed using Caswell Massey products for over 45 years. They no longer make many of the scents they made years ago, like Patchouli, Newport, or Vervain. Now they want customers to buy what I call samples, 15ml bottles for $25. Until the last few changes, you could buy 90ml bottles for $45. That is three times as expensive as before. For those who were disappointed with this cologne I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Caswell Massey makes a great smelling Number Six Goldcap Cologne. This cologne smells of bergamot, citrus and whimsical spices. The bad news is you bought whatever it was. Lemon and orange blossoms shouldn't be there, but rosemary /is/. Far from smelling like a lemon zest, the base citrus in the good stuff isn't very lemony. I recommend you buy direct from the Caswell Massey website. The price
