The hinge construction is a plastic 'axle' piece which is injection molded from the same material as the entire hinge (PVC). It's not very strong, and not even strong (it has an "X" cross-section). It arrived with a broken hinge, probably because someone had dropped the package in a corner, otherwise I would have installed it and it probably would have done its job for at least a while. For the price, you can't beat this toilet seat. I ordered white (not white crane) and it fits perfectly. It comes with plastic bolts and wing nuts and they fit and pull well. Ease of installation. The seat fits nicely in a standard round bowl with a very slight front protrusion (which is good - see last photo). It's comfortable with rounded edges (unlike some others in this price range and cheaper that look like they have almost 90° corners). Very well made seat. I would say it will last. Based
